Ms.Camtoonista

This is not a Ginger strip. I drew this based on myself, because my comic teacher suggested me to do a comic about me, like a comic diary. This page should be for Ginger, but as you can see, it takes me long to come up with Ginger strip, cos it also takes time to get my mom talking about her childhood again (she has no idea I've been drawing comics about her, shhh..!) Anyway, just to inform you that, if I don't have Ginger to update, I'll do some strip from my own daily basis. It's boring I know, but I hope you can bear with me.

Ginger and the movie (kon)

Finally able to produce another comic!
My apology for the long waiting. I just sneaked out to do some drawing during the holiday, btw Happy Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This is another memory of my mom. HAHA...I know you like my mom's childhood stories just as I do. This strip is inspired by her time waiting to see the movie or Kon in Khmer. It was during the 60s. People during her time went crazy over Kon. She told me about her long waiting just to see the free one during festival, but she fell asleep. I laughed like mad, so I decided to make a comic about it. I hope you enjoy this one too :D

New Portrait

Not that I have too much free time. I'm pretty busy, but I find time to make a portrait for another friend. I don't know why, I'm bad at drawing people but people still want me to draw them. All I did was to cartoonize them a little. I still have another person to draw for. Man, maybe I should do some practice on real drawing techniques.

Another Portrait

So I made this for a friend's sister. Ever since I drew portraits of my friends, others start coming up to me and ask me to draw them too. I don't know whether it's a bad idea or a good one. I have, like, a million things to do, but still when people ask me to do something, I just couldn't say no. I'll fix that problem later. Anyway, I think it's also a good thing, because I got to learn how to draw people, even it's not exactly what I'm good at, but it's a nice practice too. I'm not good at drawing portraits, I only make cartoons, so this is really a head start for me.

Portraits

I made some portraits for my friends. One is a current look of a guy friend, who asked me to draw a picture of him. Another one is a portrait of another friend, who taught me how to take photographs, it was drawn from his childhood look. A fan of Ginger suggested that I make another character, like a puppy for her. But I'm honestly not sure if I could bring another character to life. I'll try to make more comic strip as soon as time allow. For now, I have to take care of a few academic things first. Anyway, I hope to come up with more Ginger episodes soon.
Wish me luck!

Ginger and the Epic Shortcut (Comic Series #6)

A new strip which isn't so new since I had finished it during Pchum Ben Day. I was intended to post it on my blog as well as my facebook page when the sad news struck. I could be perky no more and decided to take a break. I don't want to dwell too long on my own sadness, so I figure that I should post my next strip and hope that Ginger can make everyone feel better.

This strip is about my mom and her best friend taking a shortcut home. In case you don't know, she lived not far away from the military airbase. Actually, the event was even more scary-funny, since they were convinced that the plan was going to crush on them, because it seemed too close for comfort, and my mom and her best friend tripped over each other. Just the two of them, always.

Ginger is Mourning for the Loss of Her King Father

I would like to inform you that, Camtoonista isn't going to update any new comic for this month, because I am mourning the greatest grief of our history. Our King Father has passed away and everything just feels so dark and heavy in my heart. What saddens me and Ginger the most is when the last Ginger strip was about my mother's childhood memory meeting the King and then I learned the news of our King Father passed away. Both shock and sorrow rolled into one. As a comic artist, who is still suffered from this coincidence, I feel obligated to mourn with Ginger and the rest of the Cambodians.

Ginger and the King (Comic Series #5)

I finished this one last Sunday. I think it's not a surprise anymore when I tell you it's from my mother's childhood again. When she was young, she lived around the military air base near Puchintong Airport. And this strip is based on the time she first met the king (Norodom Sihanouk), who was a young and handsome man back then. The story goes like this, my mom ran to see the cheering crowd. The protective bar was higher then her head, so she could just squeeze herself to the front. And then King Father was about to turn away before he saw her and stroked her head saying, "Oh there's this little white one here." That's the exact words the king said to my mom at that time. And she remembered it ever since.

I think at the end of the day, my mother's still the only person has such story to tell. Memories are very important, that's why when I get a grip of some comic-worthy childhood memory from my mom, I never hesitate to interpret it into art. Sometime it feels amazing to be able to do this, it's like I could relive those funny times with her.

Cambodian Comics (Ginger, the Kindergartner)

My old Ginger strip from my first comic book.
My friend P said I seem to make Ginger a bit unfortunate all the time. I guess it's just a part of building a character. A happy character might be boring (it's also true to writing). Most people tend to sympathize character who runs into a lot of hiccups. But I normally make sure that Ginger reflects the nature of children in their everyday life, or maybe even adults can relate to this as well.

Ginger the Walker (comic series #4)

My blog is reconstructed, so here is a new place for Ginger series. I have taken a very long time to make this new strip. It is inspired by one of my best friend's friends. When my bestie told me about her friend, I decided to make a comic strip for it. Actually, the real experience is a lot funnier than this. I laughed so hard. Sometime life has its own sense of humor.

Ginger on the Airplane (comic series # 3)

Well, it's not like I got the idea from my recent trip via a chopper, but I guess it kind of gives me a nudge. This one, like the previous Ginger strips, is inspired by my mom again. I know what you're thinking, you think my mom has a rich childhood experience, and you are right. When my mom was a kid, she traveled a lot on the military aircraft (during Non Nol time), because my grandpa was an airman (my dad was also a military pilot), so I decided to turn this memory into comic. By the way, I have a facebook page for all my Ginger series. If you're interested, come and visit it at Camtoonista. And thank you for secretly support my work, I know you do. I'm looking at you.

Ginger & the General (Comic Series #2)

I like this episode, it shows how innocent and thougthful a child can be. It's actually another childhood memory of my mom. Well, she's become the source of my inspiration now.

You can see the man uniform. My mother childhood started shortly after the Sangkom Reas Niyum time (though she spent most of it during Lon Nol time). She lived near a military base, so that's how my mom met this French general.

Ginger and the Supposed Tiger (comic series # 1)

I made some strips based on my mother's childhood, and I also mentioned about doing another comic-worthy story of her again. She really has a lot of funny moments when she was a child. This is when she and her best friend encountered a strayed dog and mistook it for a tiger, because the dog had a similar black strips on its yellow coat. And they ran into a thorn bush after that.  I laughed so hard when she told me about it. Well, I hope you enjoy it too.
